Andrea Dandolo was the 54th Doge of the Serenissima (1343-1354).

He was 37 years old (born in 1306) and was already procurator of St. Mark de supra (21/7/1331).He was the first Doge to graduate.He was a personal friend of Petrarch and wrote numerous literary works in addition to his Chronica brevis and Chronica per extensum descripta, in which he narrated the history of Aquileia and his daughter Venice, thus earning himself the title of chronicler.During his dogate, the Black Death (1348) struck Venice, taking 75% of the population and causing immense economic damage.A few years earlier (1345-1346), Zadar had rebelled and was retaken under the future Doge M
