He was 79 years old, having been born on 11 November 1653.
Already at the top of Venetian diplomacy (ambassador to Spain and Austria) and unsuccessfully engaged in negotiations with the Turks at Carlowitz (1699) and Passarowitz (1718) as plenipotentiary, he was procurator of St. Mark de citra from 3 March 1706.
During his dogate the relics of Doge Peter I Orseolo, canonised on 19 May 1731, were moved from France to the Island of St. George and then transported to St. Mark's Church, where they arrived on 7 January 1733.
