He was an illiterate; in fact, instead of a signature he imposed the signum manus.
His was a dogado troubled by internal contrasts and external dangers. He was forced to abdicate by the general assembly and retired to St. George's (others say to St. Zacharias, still others to St. Hilary's), where he died soon afterwards and where he was buried.
In 1610, he was remembered by the monks as the architect of the donation of the island to the Benedictines with the erection of a bust (by Giulio Moro from Verona) to the right of the church façade.
