He was 83 years old (he was born in 1393) and had been procurator of St. Mark de citra since 19 June 1467.
After his election, during the pozzetto tour in St. Mark's Square, the new doge did not distribute silver coins, but gold ones, and then during his short dogate he was prodigal and munificent with all the needy and magnanimous, so much so that he deserved official recognition from Pope Sixtus IV, who for his goodness of spirit bestowed upon him the Golden Rose, later deposited in St. Mark's Treasury.
