He was 68 years old (he was born in 1300), had been a ducal councillor in two separate periods and procurator of S. Marco de citra (3 June 1352).

Doge Andrea Contarini was the victor in the war of Chioggia (1379-1381) and consecrated the Republic as ruler of the seas.

His private life was substantially as turbulent as his public one. In his youth he had been among other things a Moneghino.
