Partecipazio, Angelo or Agnello, tribune of Rialto and wealthy landowner of Eraclea, was chosen as doge for being the real protagonist of the defence against Pepin's attempt to invade the Lagoon.
It seems that it was he who suggested moving the government from Malamocco to the more inland and safer area of Rivoalto (later Rialto), where, next to the Church of St. Theodore, he had the Doge's Castle (later the Doge's Palace) built.
He was also responsible for the idea of bringing the body of St Mark to Venice.
