He was 71 years old (he was born on 1 January 1664), belonged to the Pisani di Santo Stefano family, a cadet branch of the family of the same name, and had travelled all the stages of the Venetian cursus honorum: sage in orders, advisor to the doge, ambassador to France.
To celebrate his election, the family commissioned Girolamo Frigimelica to build Villa Pisani in the Stra countryside (1736-1756), but the project was abandoned due to exorbitant costs, only to be resumed and completed a few years later by Francesco Maria Preti. Therefore, the villa, the construction of which began on the occasion of Alvise's appointment as doge, was completed within the first half of the century, then continuously embellished by painters and sculptors throughout the 18th century to the extent that it was considered a true Doge's Palace on the mainland.
In 1797 the villa was purchased by Napoleon, who stayed there for only one night and then gave it to his stepson, Eugene Beauharnais.
