The first to be elected by 40 electors instead of 11, then popularly called Malipiero because he had a book published (1181) on criminal law, known as Promissione del maleficio, as if it were a promise by the doge to work to maintain public safety.
In fact, it was considered the first criminal law in history.
Doge Orio Mastropiero/Malipiero abdicated, most likely feeling tired and inadequate by this time, reducing himself to monastic life in the Monastery of S. Croce, where he died a few months later and was buried.
