He was 85 years old (he was born in 1482) and descended from an apostolic family, finally a doge from an old family.
In his life he had devoted little to politics, preferring mercantile work, but he had been podestà in Verona and ducal councillor.
His dogate did not go through a good period: there was a famine going on, so much so that the bread card had to be instituted, while the Turks wanted Cyprus.
He died while the Festa de la Sensa was in progress and the news was kept secret so as not to disturb the very important annual event. He was then buried in the cloister of S. Giobbe (Cannaregio). His remains were lost when it was decided to pave the cloister with bricks between 1820 and 1836.
