The church was rebuilt around the middle of the 18th century on a design by Giorgio Massari and dedicated to Santa Maria della Visitazione.

The initial project approached the Palladian project of the Chiesa delle Zitelle on Giudecca, also dedicated to the assistance of orphaned girls. The project was intended to carry out both the religious function and the concert hall function. In the mid-eighteenth century - for its consecration - a huge concert was held with the most authoritative artists of the time.

Inside we find numerous works of particular depth, including three works by Giambattista Tiepolo The Coronation of Mary Immaculate, David and the Angel and The Three Theological Virtues and the main altarpiece with The Visitation of Mary to Santa Elisabetta, painted by Giambattista Piazzetta and Giuseppe Angeli.

The church was the last major construction made before the fall of the Serenissima.

In the church there are choirs used by the "daughters of Choro" during their evocative concerts conducted by one of the greatest masters of the time, Antonio Vivaldi, gathering wide consensus among the listeners.
