He was 79 years old (he was born in 1286) and had been procurator of St. Mark de supra since 14 January 1363.
He was not rich, but boasted a more than respectable military and diplomatic cursus honorum.
Mild and modest in demeanour, the opposite of the previous doge Lorenzo Celsi (1361-1365), Marco reduced pomp and squandering and devoted many resources to public works, he then reinforced the peace with Aquileia, Gorizia and Austria, but when Candia rebelled again, stirred up by the very governors the Republic had just installed, the response was almost ferocious.
