He was 65 years old (he was born in 1619) and had an important cursus honorum (ambassador, ducal councillor, member of the Council of X).
His dogado, which began with his adhesion to the anti-Turkish league (1684) formed by the pope, the king of Hungary and the emperor, marked especially in the two-year period 1686-1687 an extraordinary series of victories led in the field by Francesco Morosini.
Marcantonio was buried in the Church of S. Francesco della Vigna wearing the Capuchin habit because he was very pious and devout.
