After plotting a pro-Franco conspiracy against the previous doge Teodato Ipato, of whom he was a loyalist, and having him blinded and exiled, he imposed himself on the will of the Venetians with a piloted election.
Turning out to be a turncoat, he was like his predecessor deposed, blinded, kidnapped and condemned to exile.
