In 1789 a competition was launched to establish the project for the new La Fenice theater.

The church of S. Maria del Giglio (or Zobenico, or Zobenigo) was built in the 10th century on commission of the Jubanico family.

The church was built in the early 11th century thanks to some families living in the area and in 1013 the Falier family decided to sell it to the monastery of Brondolo.
