The church was built around the 9th century on commission of the Adorni family, was destroyed in the early 12th century and rebuilt thanks to the offerings of its faithful.

It underwent several renovations and reconstructions, the last dating back to the mid-18th century, based on a project by the architect Lorenzo Boschetti.

Inside there are no great works of art except for the ceiling which is said to be painted by Gianbattista Tiepolo.

The church is now closed to worship, as per Napoleon's decree of 1810, and houses art exhibitions inside.
