This place of worship was a source of inspiration for the virtuoso Venetian musician Benedetto Giacomo Marcello, who wrote numerous pieces for it.
To notice this church, you need to look up to the sky: as it has no façade and is hidden among the houses, you will have to look carefully to notice the cross on the roof and the small, squat bell tower.

The church was founded in the early eleventh century, underwent several renovations during the following centuries up to the last one dating back to the last years of the seventeenth century by Antonio Gaspari.

In the nineteenth century the church underwent a major structural upheaval due to the creation of Strada Nova: the road widening works led to the downsizing of the church.

In 1810 it was closed, then sold to Jewish merchants who used it as a sand warehouse. In 1836 it was definitively reopened.
