Domenico Contarini I was the 30th doge of the Serenissima (1043-1071).

Apart from the wars against Zara, an untamed Dalmatian city, the recovery of Grado, occupied by the Patriarch of Aquileia, and the victory in Apulia over the Normans, the new doge did not face any major controversies.

Having subdued Zadar, retaken Grado (1042) and rebuilt it after the fire by the Patriarch of Aquileia, Contarini was appointed first archiproto and then magister by the basileus.

During his dogate there were great benefits, also because the doge continued the work of his predecessor Domenico Flabanico who, through agricultural expansion in the Po hin
