Alvise Mocenigo II was the 110th Doge of the Serenissima (1700-1709).

He was 72 years old (born on the 3rd of February 1628) and very rich.He never spoke of women. He was a virgin.The War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) broke out during his dogato, in which all the European powers were involved. The warring armies raided the territory of the Republic, but it managed to maintain its armed neutrality.Luca Carlevarijs dedicated his (1703) Le fabbriche e vedute di Venezia (103 engravings to acquaint foreigners with the magnificence of the Serenissima at the end of the 17th century) to him. His death coincided with a memorable frost in the lagoon.
