He succeeded Lorenzo Tiepolo, was 81 years old (he was born in 1194) and had a remarkable career as a diplomat.

He was also procurator of St. Mark's from 18 April 1267.

He was married to Jacobina who bore him four children. He lived the years of the dogado very withdrawn, weak, attending few councils of state, too old to still have the necessary temperament to lead a government in turbulent years.

Forced to resume the war with Ancona, supported by the pope, he asked to abdicate.

He retired to a convent, where he died a few months late
