He was 70 years old (he was born on 26 October 1409) and was the brother of Doge Pietro (1474-1476).
During his dogate he signed a peace that sanctioned the end of the war against the Turks (1479), but forced the Republic to give up Negroponte, Lemno and Argo, and to lose Scutari in Albania, among others, while retaining some ports on the coast, such as Dulcigno, Antivari and Budua, and retaining permission to trade freely in all countries of the Turkish Empire upon payment of an annual tribute of 10,000 ducats.
