This church is sure to remain in the visitor's mind for its painting cycle, of inestimable beauty, by one of the greatest Renaissance painters of the Veneto: Paolo Calieri, known as Il Veronese.
Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this privilege. You will also find the painter's remains there, a fitting recognition of this man who dedicated part of his life to decorating this place of worship.

The site stands on a small convent and a hospice built by the monks of San Girolamo around the middle of the fourteenth century; next to it was also founded the oratory dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta which was shortly after transformed into a church dedicated to San Sebastiano (protector of the plague victims) by the population who lived nearby and who survived the plague.

The current building was erected towards the middle of the sixteenth century on a project, it seems, by Antonio Abbondi, known as Lo Scarpagnino, who changed the orientation of the plant.
