Church richly decorated and embellished with works by major 15th century artists, some of which are now on display at the Gallerie dell'Accademia.
Notable is the ornate column on the entrance portal: it represents the resurrection and rebirth of man through faith and devotion to God.

The church owes its construction to two personalities: San Bernardino da Siena (particularly active and present in Venice towards the middle of the 15th century) and the doge Cristoforo Moro (who contributed significantly to the civil and religious development of this urban area, especially during the its stave from 1462 to 1471). It was built around 1450 by two well-known and very active architects in Venice: Antonio Gambello and Lorenzo di Gian Francesco; the bell tower was completed in 1464.
