He was 65 years old (he was born in 1489).
He was a sickly doge and a great glutton. His lavish display of luxury, at a time when the Doge's Republic was suffering from famine, alienated all sympathy for him, and the people ended up hating him and holding him responsible for the serious economic situation.
He was buried in the Church of St Salvador.
A painting by Palma il Giovane shows him in the act of presenting the subject cities of Brescia, Udine, Padua and Verona to Venice.
