Burano Lace Museum — (Archive Venipedia/Bazzmann)

Lace, like glassmaking, is one of the sources of pride of the Serenissima. This is why a place dedicated to this art, handed down from generation to generation, has been established.
During opening hours, as well as walking through the museum rooms, you can watch some of the skilled and tireless hands of master lacemakers at work. There is no better way to learn an art than by watching it being performed by skilled people who lovingly share their experience.

The museum is located in the seat of the Scuola dei Merletti di Burano, founded in 1872, inside are exhibited works of Venetian production ranging from the sixteenth to the twentieth century as well as precious works of the Scuola dei Mereltti of Burano.

The Lace School gave the girls a teaching that began at an early age and was divided into various classes and levels, the young women, in addition to learning, could sell the works made.

The archive is full of important historical-artistic documents of photos, drawings and more that are available to scholars.
