The Procurators of St. Mark's were an authoritative magistracy of the Serenissima, second only to the figure of the Doge, whose election for life they had in common.

The year of institution of the office is to be attributed to the year 812 and on the number of the first elected Procurators there are two historical currents today: those who want only one elected, those who instead figure three as the first elected.
