Preservation of the megio (millet in Italian): this was the original function of this bare building, necessary to feed the people in the event of food shortages. 
It cannot be said that the Serenissima did not think about the survival of its people.
Looking out over the Grand Canal, this former warehouse is adjacent to the Natural History Museum and almost opposite the Venice Casino.

Aesthetically, it is one of the bareest palaces in Venice with its dark brick facade but you can easily understand what its role could be: storing huge quantities of goods.

The function of this Fondaco del Megio, in fact, was to preserve grains and in particular millet (hence the term megio, translation of the word "millet" into Venetian), a cereal of little value compared to wheat and destined to the people for cope with any food shortages.
