It takes its name from the Roman order of the Discalced Carmelite friars who settled in the lagoon in 1633 and bought the land in 1649. It is dedicated to Santa Maria di Nazareth, recovering the cult from an image of the Virgin transported here from the homonymous island. which would later become the Lazzaretto Vecchio.
