The theater arrived in Mestre at the end of the eighteenth century, thanks to the Balbi brothers and the Venetian architect Maccaruzzi. Finally Mestre, a holiday resort at the time, was enriched with a cultural space. With the fall of the Republic and tourism interrupted, the activity ceased and the theater was demolished.
A second attempt was made in 1840, with the construction of the Garibaldi theater. Despite the good turnout, the building was not considered to be at the height of the growing town and was closed in 1908.
