It is certainly one of the largest and most spacious squares in the city, in the centre of which stands the monument dedicated to Niccolò Tommaseo - a man of culture and academic of the Crusca from 1866 onwards, as well as being known in Italy for having drafted the first Dictionary of the Italian Language and the Dictionary of Synonyms and having participated, together with Daniele Manin, in the Venetian Revolution of 1848-1849.
