External façade of the Querini Stampalia Foundation (Marco Trevisan, Venipedia / Bazzmann)

Residing as the Civic Library of the historic city centre and of Venetians living in the lagoon, this library was born from the immense donation of the family of the same name and has been expanding ever since.
Over more than 7 centuries of history, it includes manuscripts, incunabula, rare printed editions, ancient maps and engravings.

Giovanni Querini Stampalia's main legacy is his large collection of books which form the core of the library's heritage. This also includes the ancient documents that compose the correspondence of Cardinal Angelo Maria Querini, the historic tenant of the building.

Currently the library boasts 350,000 volumes of which over 32,000 works are directly accessible for consultation, of which about 400 are periodicals. The wooden furniture dates back to the early twentieth century and was personally chosen by one of the first librarians, Arnaldo Segarizzi (in office from 1905 to 1924).
