Giovanni Querini Stampalia's main legacy is his large collection of books which form the core of the library's heritage. This also includes the ancient documents that compose the correspondence of Cardinal Angelo Maria Querini, the historic tenant of the building.
Currently the library boasts 350,000 volumes of which over 32,000 works are directly accessible for consultation, of which about 400 are periodicals. The wooden furniture dates back to the early twentieth century and was personally chosen by one of the first librarians, Arnaldo Segarizzi (in office from 1905 to 1924). In 2002, the computerization of the library was completed, which had begun two years earlier with the construction of the multimedia room.
The agreement stipulated with the municipality of Venice in 1982 sanctioned the recognition of the role of civic library; a few years later the foundation will enter the Venetian Center of the National Library Service.
