Founded in 1261, in the church of Sant'Apollinare, by the brotherhood devoted to San Giovanni Evangelista, in 1414 the old hospice for needy women by the Badoer family was purchased and restored to provide the brotherhood with a suitable place to meet. The works of the school ended in 1420 while the works of the side façade, built in floral-gothic, ended in 1454.
Outside, in 1481, the works, begun in 1478, for the construction of the portal of the entrance courtyard of Pietro Lombardo were completed. In the portal you can see the symbols of the School and of San Giovanni Evangel
