The Scoletta dell'Arte dei Tiraoro and Battioro, or School of Tiraoro and Battioro, was established on January 2, 1420 as the headquarters of the Guild of craftsmen specialized in the manufacture of gold threads and leaves, but only settled in San Stae in 1711. Gian Giacomo Gaspari took care of the construction.
The institution gathered two categories of workers: the tiraoro, those who made gold threads for fabrics and goldsmithing and the battioro who instead made the precious metal into very thin foils that could be used to adorn the works of art.
