One of the city's most iconic symbols, it was the very first bridge built over the Grand Canal to facilitate trade. The first Rialto Bridge, built in 1180 on boats, was initially made of wood and subsequently rebuilt several times. The current stone bridge was completed in 1591 and features a single arch, six shops on each side and ramp, and various sculptures.
