Marco Boschini was born in Venice in 1602. He was a versatile artist: painter, engraver, cartographer, art dealer and writer. Famous for his engravings, including portraits of Venetian nobles and religious works, he also distinguished himself as a consultant for collectors, an art dealer and as the author of important art writings, including 'Le miniere della pittura veneziana'. He died in Venice in 1681.

Marco Boschini, a Venetian, was born on 5 October 1602 (a recently attributed year, previously thought to be 1613) to parents Zuan Antonio and Leonora. After his literary studies in the capital of Padua, he learnt art at an early age, starting with painting in the workshop of Jacopo Palma il Giovane and then moving on to engraving at Odoardo Fialetti.In 1629 he settled in Venice in Calle del Figher in San Marcuola, where he not only bought a house but also set up his workshop; in 1635 he married Felice Bocchi, from whose marriage several children were born, two of them male.
