The church of the Holy Trinity - and the adjacent monastery - were built between the 11th and 12th centuries in the Dorsoduro district, in the last stretch of the Grand Canal that flows into the San Marco Basin.
In 1256 - to thank the Teutonic Knights for their help in the war of San Saba against the Genoese - Doge Raniero Zen had a religious complex of the Holy Trinity built, enriched with precious goods and donated it to the Knights who established their residence there.
