For those who love to visit the city in peace, without the crowds of tourists, the Dorsoduro district can be an alternative route to the usual route to the famous Piazza San Marco.

It includes the Giudecca island and the homonymous canal.

A walk along the sun-kissed shore of the Zattere is recommended, especially in the midseason which avoids the heat and the excessive heat of summer.

It borders the sestiere of S. Croce and the sestiere of S.Polo with the sestiere of S.Marco across the Accademia Bridge. The presence of various branches of the Cà Foscari University also makes it a university district.

If you come with the vaporetto from S.Marco and disembark at the Salute stop we immediately find the Basilica of the Madonna della Salute, erected as a thank you to the Madonna for the liberation of the city from the plague, the Peggy Guggheneim art collection and, along the sunny bank of the Zattere towards Piazzale Roma, we will find the Gallerie dell'Accademia and its bridge.

Continuing we will meet Cà Rezzonico with its museum of the Venetian eighteenth century and the Campo Santa Margherita where there is life until late in the evening and where in the premises we find ourselves to drink the Venetian aperitif, the spritz.

Passing to Giudecca Island and walking along the bank of the canal of the same name, you cannot miss the Basilica of the Santissimo Redentore, the first church erected by the citizens during the plague in the 16th century and which is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of July with a votive bridge of boats that crosses the Giudecca Canal while, towards the end of the island, you can visit the 9th century Church of Sant'Eufemia in the Venetian-Byzantine style.
