Fourth son of Jacopo Dal Ponte, Leandro was born in Bassano in 1557.

From a young age, he worked with his brothers Francesco and Giambattista in his father's workshop and soon developed his individual qualities, devoting himself above all to pastoral themes. Following his trip to Venice in the late 1970s with his father, Leandro's paintings began to stand out, such as the Ultima Cena Pitti and the Christ Deposed by Angels in the Sepulchre in the Museo Civico in Bassano. Presumably between 1584 and 1588, the artist began to reside permanently in Venice, enrolling in the lagoon fraglia (fraternity) of painters.
