Immersed in a large and lively field, there is a Byzantine atmosphere in this ancient church in Venice: its characteristic Anatolian marble stoup and famous green marble column immerse you in the Constantinople of yesteryear.

Founded, presumably, around the IX-X century and according to some it was appealed by the Orio for having been built on that marshy island then reclaimed called Luprio; others think that the name derives from a family, others still believe that the name was given due to the proximity to a river. One thing is certain: this place of worship is one of the oldest in Venzia.

The ownership of the church in San Giacomo, on the other hand, is thought to be linked to strong ties with Spain and with the famous sanctuary Santiago de Compostela.
