The old building, in Gothic style and of extreme beauty, was demolished in favor of the current construction. This took place between 1724 and 1728 on a project by the architect Domenico Rossi and on behalf of the Corner family of San Cassiano. The first stone was laid on May 10, 1724.
To decide for the rebuilding were the descendants of the queen of Cyprus, Caterina Corner or Cornaro, who was born right within the walls of the previous demolished palace.
