An indispensable figure for understanding audiovisual culture between the 1930s and 1940s in Italy.
During his career as a filmmaker, he was also a journalist, photographer, film historian and critic, as well as a director of opera and drama, set designer and playwright.

LifeFrancesco Pasinetti was born in Venice in June 1911 into a well-to-do family of artists: his maternal grandfather Guglielmo Ciardi was one of the great 19th-century Venetian painters and his uncles Giuseppe and Emma Ciardi and Alessandro Milesi were well-known painters; his younger brother Pier Maria was a writer and journalist, a novelist and a teacher of comparative literature and Italian language; his father Carlo was an esteemed hospital chief.
