The majestic church of the Madonna dell'Orto stands in the extreme spit of land north of the Cannaregio district, on the homonymous field and near the Campi dei Mori and Sant'Alvise, an area where it was usual to find vegetable gardens and gardens. The Campo della Madonna dell'Orto is one of the very few remaining examples of the ancient Venetian pavement, consisting of bands of white stone and brick positioned in a herringbone pattern; similar is the pavement in the cloister and in the nearby Campo di Santa Maria in Val Verde (Abbey).
