Splendidness and worldliness: these are the two best adjectives to describe 18th-century Venice and thus also this palace, which is an authentic example of it. Numerous parties organised by the wealthy Rezzonico family have gone down in history, some of which also involved the people who lived in the San Barnaba area. Robert Browning and Cole Porter also lived here.

The building was started by the well-known architect Baldassare Longhena at the request of the Bon family who underestimated the expenses to invest every single fund in it; despite their efforts, after a certain period of time during which only the first floor was built, the landlords were forced to sell it, due to lack of liquidity, to the powerful Rezzonico family for 60,000 ducats.
