It has become a tradition that the Venetian carnival officially opens at noon on the first Sunday of carnival with the 'Svolo del Turco', also called 'Volo dell'Angelo' or 'Volo della Colombina'.This is among the oldest carnival festivities handed down from the Venetian Republic.
