The Azteca ants (Azteca alfari) are a species living in the subtropical regions of the Americas, intimately linked to the Cecropia, a tree that inhabits those latitudes: the tree feeds them and offers them shelter, and they aggressively defend its leaves from attacks by herbivores, since it is at the base of the foliage stems that the ants' food is produced. Some of them live in permanent symbiosis with the tree.
