Dalmatian scholar known in Italy for having compiled the first Dictionary of the Italian Language.
In Venice, he is still remembered for his participation, together with Daniele Manin, in the Venetian Revolution of 1848-1849.

LifeNiccolò Tommaseo was born in Sibenik, a small town in Dalmatia that is now a Croatian town (Sibenik). Sibenik was first a Venetian possession, then passed to the French, and from 1814 it was under the rule of Austria.His studies began in Split (Croatia) and continued by attending the University of Padua, where he met the philosopher Antonio Rosmini, who became his close friend and point of reference for several years.In 1822, he graduated in law and decided to try to make his way in the world of literature.
