Colour painting: a view of Venice from the Grand Canal. In the centre stands the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, with its white dome and tall bell tower. The water is teeming with gondolas and sailing boats with orange and white sails that reflect a golden light. On the right is the Punta della Dogana. The style is characterised by the atmospheric and luminous brushstrokes typical of Turner, with a blue sky streaked with light clouds that blend into the radiant horizon.
