A thousand-year journey into the history of Lio Piccolo, its people, their stories and the links with other areas of the Venetian lagoon. And with Venice itself. In colour, illustrated and accompanied by a wealth of notes with further insights.

Looking at it today, the tiny village of Lio Piccolo would seem to have nothing to tell except to enchant every person who lands there with its unique landscape and the incredible sense of serenity that pervades its territory.

Yet it is a living witness to what we would now call 'resilient', rich in ancient settlements and the territory of a past fervent activity, thanks to the salt-pan industry, agriculture and fish farming in the fishing valleys. Because of its importance, today it is also a Protected Area of Urban Importance.

A vivid link with the water of the Venetian lagoon, therefore, which is also its connection with the rest of the lagoon territory and with Venice itself.

History, anecdotes, people and destinies intertwine in this historical journey of an authentic gem, written with academic rigour but flowing in its reading, accompanied by a wealth of notes with further insights, splendid colour images, maps and historical documents, as well as the digital reconstruction of a rural house, based on period documents and drawings.

A journey through time. A tale of lives lived. A reference text.
